A suspected gas main break has forced the evacuation of up to 200 people from a major hospital and TAFE campus in Sydney’s north.
It is understood a contractor had been working on Westbound Street in St Leonards and allegedly ruptured a gas line, causing a leak at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson told Newswire no one was injured and the gas company had quickly turned off the gas.

“The area has now been declared safe by Fire Rescue and Rescue, and the site has been handed over to NSW Police,” they said.
People at nearby TAFE and Royal North Shore Private Hospital were evacuated as a safety precaution.
