Trafalgar, Victoria: Driver wanted after hitting pedestrian and leaving him for dead

The man was walking along Waterloo Rd (pictured) in the town of Trafalgar in Victoria's West Gippsland region when he was hit by a car and left for dead in the road.

A search is underway to find the driver responsible for a suspected hit-and-run death.

The pedestrian, believed to be in his 60s, was left dead on the side of the road when a passerby spotted the body at around 10.30am on Sunday.

The man was walking along Waterloo Rd in the town of Trafalgar in Victoria’s West Gippsland region when he was hit.

Although police have not yet formally identified the man, investigators believe he was struck by a vehicle on Waterloo Rd, east of Davey Dr, sometime late Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the man walking in the area, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police say he was wearing a black sports shirt, a white plaid shirt, black sweatpants with two white stripes down the sides and no shoes.

Detective Sergeant Peter Romanis of the unit will speak to the media on Monday morning, where he is expected to share more details of the incident.

The man is the 162nd person to die in fatal road crashes in Victoria this year.
