Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz is still reeling from her family’s sudden circumstances since Kamala Harris chose her husband Tim as her running mate.

There is so much new that he can barely put it into words. “I could name what’s not so fantastic,” he told DailyMail.com on the second day of the Democratic National Convention, which was underway on Tuesday night.

Walz gathered 21 members of her family in prime seats at the United Center to enjoy the moment, while her husband’s image was beamed into the stadium from Milwaukee after the proceedings. including Lil Jon and Patti LaBelle.

He stopped for an interview inside a venue packed with enthusiastic Democrats who suddenly embrace the 60-year-old Minnesota governor, along with his dad jokes and his call to campaign with “joy.”

Minnesota’s first lady ignored what she said were warnings from her staff not to speak to the press, in a sign of how she might chart her own course if she gets to Washington. (Harris has resisted pressure for a sit-down interview and only took brief questions from reporters.)

A surreal moment for Walz came when he suddenly saw his name appear in huge letters on a campaign bus during a tour of battleground Pennsylvania, before the power couples headed to Chicago.

“I would say this: When you see your name like Harris-Walz on the bus, do you recognize the sign? Wow! Really?” she said in amazement. “I guess it’s a real lesson, even if you’re running. It happened fast,” she said.

He said the capital letters with both names made a big impression.

Walz wore a bright red dress for the occasion and entered the stadium to take selfies with some of the 21 members of her family who accompanied her. Meanwhile, she entertained her mother and mother-in-law at the event, which featured performances by rappers Common and Lil Jon, as well as speeches by political figures, led by Barack Obama.

There is one topic it simply doesn’t touch on: whether the names Harris and Walz deserve an apostrophe — a dark but controversial topic that received the New York Times treatment after the two names were linked. The question, which appears to be an unresolved stylistic issue, is whether an “s” should be added after one or both names when expressing a possessive.

It’s the curse of Waltz.

“I’ll stay out of that conversation. It’s very interesting. I’m an English teacher,” she diplomatically said.

“There are a lot of disagreements about grammar,” he explained.

Nor is she willing to give any hint that she is measuring the curtains at the US Naval Observatory, the mansion in Washington, DC, that houses the sitting vice president.

“We’re trying to keep the Minnesota House right now,” he joked when asked if he would make any changes.

Walz did not discuss her future career plans if she moves to Washington. First lady Jill Biden continues to teach at a community college.

She has long championed educational causes and sponsored clubs at school. She and Walz met at a school where they both taught in Nebraska. In addition to teaching, she worked as a public school administrator in Minnesota for two decades. She has also worked to expand educational opportunities for prisoners.
