Florida has long been considered the United States’ favorite retirement destination, but many coastal getaways in the state have become increasingly unaffordable.
However, new research has revealed the top ten most affordable beach towns for retirees, and six of them are in the Sunshine State.
To identify the best and cheapest coastal places for people to spend their golden years, Real estate agent.com analyzed census data to find areas with a large proportion of residents over age 55.
The researchers then looked at listing data from May to find places where properties are selling for a low price per square foot.
Topping the list is Calabash, North Carolina, a quaint fishing town renowned as the seafood capital of the world.
