Legal battle: Lidl accuses Tesco of having copied its yellow round logo
Tesco could face an £8million bill to rebrand its Clubcard after losing a legal battle with Lidl over its yellow circular logo.
The German discounter had accused Britain’s largest supermarket of profiting from its logo when it launched its Clubcard discount program.
But Tesco denied infringing the trademark and challenged the decision in the Court of Appeal, arguing there was no “foundation” in the decision.
However, Lord Justice Arnold yesterday rejected the attempt.
Tesco is not expected to appeal and has suggested in court proceedings that the cost of a rebrand could reach £7.8 million. Tesco said it was disappointed while Lidl said it was “delighted”.
