This is the shocking moment a businessman was kidnapped at gunpoint, before he managed to escape his captors by jumping out of the ambulance they used in the kidnapping.

The victim, 33, was seen on surveillance video getting out of a van and removing a backpack when the kidnappers pulled up to their vehicle outside a building in Bogotá, Colombia’s capital, on Saturday.

One of the kidnappers pointed his gun and tried to grab the businessman, who tried to defend himself from the suspect.

Another suspect can be seen running out of a red vehicle and attacking the victim until they were able to push him into the ambulance.

The vehicle took off as horrified bystanders watched, while a person approached the businessman’s companion. In the background you can see the red car fleeing in the opposite direction.

A separate security camera shows the ambulance turning the corner and speeding down a street, just seconds before the businessman somehow jumped out.

The hit-and-run driver immediately hit the brakes as the businessman lay on the sidewalk, got up and ran.

At least two of the suspects exited the ambulance while one of them appeared to reach for something on the ground and then climbed back in and fled.

A police report obtained by the newspaper El Tiempo indicated that the businessman, who specialized in real estate, had never received threats and that the kidnappers had been following his movements.

The ambulance used by the kidnappers had been out of service since May 2 due to mechanical problems, the Bogotá Health Secretariat said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The agency will continue to collaborate with the appropriate authorities to clarify these unfortunate events,” the health department said.

The suspects remained at large as of Wednesday. The ambulance is still missing.
