A man who claims to be the brother of an NRL star has been arrested after allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a wild 45-minute chase through western Sydney.

Jamie Twal, 30, allegedly pointed a gun at a 55-year-old man before getting into the back of his white Toyota sedan on Hilltop Road, in Merrylands, shortly after 6pm on Friday.

Twal allegedly demanded that the man driving drive to Villawood.

The driver, fearing for his own safety, got out of the car and left it with Twal in Parramatta, and Twal then allegedly drove off in the sedan and crashed into several other vehicles.

The sedan was found abandoned shortly afterwards on Boronia Street, Ermington, with PolAir tracking Twal to a house around the corner at around 7pm.

He was seen sitting in the gutter, handcuffed and shirtless, before being taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and mandatory tests.

Twal was subsequently taken to the Granville Police Station, where he was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft of a value less than or equal to $2,000, failure to give details to another driver, driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period. and using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He appeared in court on Saturday, where it emerged he had served time for robbery offences. The daily telegraph reported.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.

Witnesses told Nine News that Twal had claimed to be the brother of NRL star Alex Twal.

The Toyota sedan was also seen traveling on suburban roads without tires and only on its rims, another witness said.
