A man tragically drowned at a popular beach in front of shocked beachgoers after desperate attempts by lifeguards and surf paramedics to save him.
Emergency services were called to Scarborough Beach, northwest of Perth, about 8.20am on Sunday after a 46-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the water.
Surf lifeguards administered CPR in an attempt to revive the swimmer while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

A St John WA spokeswoman confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that four St John WA teams attended the scene.
Unfortunately the man died at the scene.
The 46-year-old man’s death is not believed to be suspicious.
The police will prepare a report for the coroner.
