But solar eclipse viewers saw another plane flying over the event in McKinney, which is about 50 miles from Arlington.
The crowd around them seemed bewildered by what they had witnessed, as did many social media users.
The object appeared to fly back and forth in the area of ​​the sky where the sun and moon had met.
Comments on the video shared on X suspected the object was a helicopter due to how quickly it appeared.
“It’s literally the shadow of a helicopter passing through the clouds,” one user posted. “I’ve seen this several times with airplanes.”
But an Arizona man who said he lives near Luke Air Force Base said “helicopters don’t move that fast.”
Others suggested the shadow came from an airplane.
‘I thought of the shadow of an airplane when I saw it. “Not that it couldn’t be the shadow of a UFO, but it’s probably nothing that fun,” another user shared.
One X user posted that it was “clearly an airplane,” citing that the outline of the engines was visible in the video.
Another shared: ‘Shadow in the clouds from a higher altitude plane. “I’ve seen this many times as an aviation observer.”
They went on to explain that the shadow disappears when the plane moves toward a cloudless part of the sky, and that the shadow appeared similar in size to that of the craft.
