Rebel Wilson says she has been contacted by several other women since she claimed to have been sexually harassed by Ali G performer Sacha Baron Cohen, stating that “the truth will come out.”
Pitch Perfect star Rebel, 44, claimed in her autobiography Rebel Rising that the Borat actor asked her to strip for scenes even though their contracts included “no nudity” clauses and made sexually explicit requests of her. .
Baron Cohen’s representatives say he denies any allegations of mistreatment or harassment of Rebel on the set of the 2016 action comedy film Grimsby, released in North America as The Brothers Grimsby.
Rebel says other women have “been in contact” with her since she made the claims on his new autobiography, Rebel Rising. There is no suggestion at this time that women are lodging claims against the Borat actor.
Baron Cohen, 52, just announced that he and his wife Isla Fisher, 48, are breaking up. Sources have suggested the A-list marriage had been in trouble for some time and that Rebel’s allegations were a “catalyst” for the split.
Rebel Wilson (pictured at the BFI London Film Festival) claims other women contacted her after she accused Sacha Baron Cohen of sexual harassment.
Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife, actress Isla Fisher (pictured), announced their separation this week, although the split is said to have occurred last year.
Rebel claimed Baron Cohen pressured her to strip naked for scenes and asked her to perform a sex act on him while filming box office bomb Grimsby (pictured).
Rebel posed up a storm in a satin green dress while lounging on the couch, with the caption: ‘What a week!’ while she was referring to the attention her book has gained
In a new interview, Rebel said the women who had contacted her were still considering going public with their own allegations, the exact details of which and who they refer to are unclear.
She continued: ‘IIt’s hard to say anything against someone who has a high profile, because you get hit with expensive lawyers and crisis PR people and all kinds of little tricks.
‘It doesn’t feel very good when all I do is share my story in my memoir, something I have every right to do.
“But I always think the truth will come out, so it’s great to have the book out now so people don’t just read the headlines, but can read the actual chapter.”
The comments, first reported by SunIt comes after days of frenzied speculation about Baron Cohen’s marriage following the publication of Rebel’s book.
She had played Baron Cohen’s girlfriend in Grimsby, a box office failure that was ridiculed by critics.
The film saw Baron Cohen’s football-loving character, Nobby, get dragged into the world of espionage; It also starred Isla, Mark Strong, Penélope Cruz, Ricky Tomlinson and Johnny Vegas.
Rebel claimed in the memoir that during filming he would ask her to undress for scenes, in violation of her “no nudity” clause, and would ask her to perform a sex act with her butt on camera because it would be “fun.”
She wrote that his actions made her feel “completely disrespected, which led me to treat myself with even more disrespect by eating in an extremely unhealthy way.”
Bridesmaid actress Rebel said she finally compromised and agreed to “slap him on the butt” in an improvised scene, and agreed after several rewrites.
But behind-the-scenes footage released after the claims were made seemed to suggest she was okay with the scene – a suggestion she has vehemently denied.
“It is a bad move to publish images of a part of that disgusting episode leaving aside everything that preceded it,” he said in a statement, adding that his “horrified refusal” to carry out the act was not included in the published footage.
He added: “What this edited video shows is what I had to do to get out of the room, as written in Rebel Rising.”
“Posting unauthorized and misleading behind-the-scenes videos without my approval is SBC’s (Sacha Baron Cohen) latest way to intimidate and deceive me.”
Rebel appears to have alluded to the incident in the past.discussing similar circumstances in a conversation with British television personality Ant Middleton for his Straight Talking podcast in 2021.
At that time he did not name any alleged harasser. When asked if he reported the incident, She told Middleton: ‘I called my agent immediately and told him this had happened. We filed an official complaint to the studio.
“But I’m so professional that I thought, well, I’m still going to get on with the job.” Something you may not have now.
He then stated: “The things that happened to me are not that serious, but I am still afraid to name the people.”
Rebel also shared a link from her story to her live show in Los Angeles, where she will sit down for an in-person conversation with Jess Cagle to discuss her controversial new memoir.
After posting a link to tickets for the show, the star also revealed that while the book is available to purchase in the US, it is not yet ready for sale in the UK and Australia.
Isla and UK-born Sacha met at a party in Sydney in 2001 and married nine years later.
Isla confirmed the split on Instagram with a photo of the couple in tennis attire and wrote, “After a long tennis match that lasted over 20 years, we are finally putting down our rackets.”
Rebel played Sacha’s on-screen girlfriend in the 2016 Louis Leterrier-directed film and has made a number of accusations about her uncomfortable experience during filming.
Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher announced their separation on Friday, days after Rebel made the first claims following the publication of her book in the United States.
The publication of the memoir in the United Kingdom and Australia had been “momentarily delayed by an idiot, but not for long,” Rebel said on social media.
The book’s publisher, Harper Collins Australia, said Yahoo Lifestyle: ‘The publication of Rebel Rising has been delayed but we have no further comment.’
The couple announced the end of their marriage, apparently decided last year, with a rare photo of themselves dressed in tennis on Instagram.
“After a long tennis match that lasted more than 20 years, we finally put down our rackets,” read the caption accompanying the image.
‘In 2023 we file a joint application to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy and have been quietly working on this change.
‘We will always share our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate you respecting our family’s desire for privacy.’
However, sources close to the couple claimed tonight that Cohen and Fisher had been struggling with their “unstable” marriage for years.
Insiders said Cohen had reportedly run into trouble after making the “sacrifice” of moving his family to Australia in 2020.
And a source told The Sun that Isla was “starting to feel embarrassed” by the book’s claims, which acted as “a catalyst” in her decision to announce their split and allowed her to protect her “own career and reputation.”
Another source close to the couple added that the “decision was not made lightly” and that “there is still a lot of love” between Isla and Sacha, who “remain incredibly close.”
Representatives for Baron Cohen have been contacted for comment.
A spokesperson for the actor previously said: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive and detailed evidence, including contemporary documents, film footage and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production”. from The Brothers Grimsby.’
Wilson herself broke her silence on social media after the allegations first came to light with a video of her posing in a satin green dress.
The Instagram clip was titled simply: ‘What a week! I need to lie down on the couch now…really! Thank you very much to everyone who bought REBEL RISING and are already enjoying it! I love you.’
Meanwhile, it was reported last year that Baron Cohen was preparing to take some of his best-known figures on tour, including Ali G.
A live stand-up tour featuring the character was said to be in the works in August last year and the actor reportedly tried out performances as Ali G and the Kazakh journalist character Borat at a comedy club in Sydney. in 2021.
