“I looked down and saw that there were actually two cockroaches eating the chocolate.”
The couple managed to capture some of the cockroaches in a glass.
They were horrified to discover what appeared to be a bed bug crawling on their pillows.
“I thought ‘oh God, no way’ and I crushed it and then I pulled the bed halfway out to see if there was more,” Benjamin told Yahoo News.
‘I didn’t see anything else, but I saw some black dots. “I didn’t really know what to look for because it’s the first time I’ve found it.”
They tried calling staff after hours and Booking.com, the site they had booked the room with, but couldn’t get through to anyone.
According to Benjamin, all the nearby hotels with a 24-hour front desk were already booked.
The couple ended up sleeping in the hallway.
“I ended up sleeping 30 minutes with all the people coming in and out of the hotel partying,” Benjamin said.
Richard Doyle, general counsel for hotel management group StayWell Holdings, said the hotel’s night staff attempted to contact the hotel concierge but could not reach him at 2am.
“We accept this as a failure on our part,” Doyle said.
‘The guest could not be relocated within the hotel because all our other rooms were full.
“Our staff usually help guests find alternative rooms when there are problems, although this is difficult when problems arise at 2am.”
A spokesperson for the hotel (pictured) insisted they had “no cases of bed bugs or cockroaches prior to this incident.”

“All my clothes are in the freezer and my bags are in bigger bags in the sun,” Benjamin wrote.
She has since reported the incident to the authorities and filed a complaint with StayWell about compensation.
