A south-west Sydney police officer charged with possession of child abuse material appeared in court for the first time flanked by family and supporters.
Joshua John Potter, 25, appeared at Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday just over three weeks after being charged following an internal police investigation.
In June, the New South Wales Police Professional Standards Command launched an investigation into Constable Potter, a South West Metropolitan Region officer.
On September 17, at Campbelltown Police Station, he was arrested and charged with possession/control of child abuse material – use of carriage.
According to court documents, Potter is alleged to have possessed the child abuse material from May of last year until July 30 of this year at his Glen Alpine home.

Officer Potter (left) will appear in court again in December.
It is alleged that the material was located on a computer and a data storage device.
He was granted bail before appearing in court on Thursday alongside his lawyer Sophia Seton.
He sat quietly at the back of the court alongside family and supporters while a registrar dealt with his matter.
He did not enter a plea during the brief appearance.
New South Wales Police said he had been suspended with pay and his employment status was under review.
Agent Potter will return to court on December 4.
