Nick Kyrgios has offered to lend his tennis expertise to Kate Middleton following the Princess of Wales’ return to Wimbledon on Sunday.

Kate, 42, who has stepped back from public royal duties while undergoing cancer treatment, attended the All England Tennis Club to watch reigning Spanish champion Carlos Alcaraz take on Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final.

Kate, a client of the world-famous south-west London club, is a keen tennis fan and was warmly welcomed by the Centre Court crowd on her second public appearance following her shock diagnosis.

Australian tennis star Kyrgios, known for his flamboyant behaviour on court, was commentating for the BBC during the Grand Slam final and shared his joy at seeing Kate in the Royal Box.

He even took the opportunity to offer the Princess of Wales his services as a coach, arguing that he would make tennis much more interesting than Swiss legend Roger Federer, from whom Kate had already received coaching advice.

“Maybe I’m a bit volatile… but look, I’ve got a lot of free time at the moment so I’m happy to coach (Kate Middleton),” Kyrgios told BBC Sport.

‘It will be more fun to have me train than (Roger) Federer!’

Kyrgios has been sidelined for more than a year with knee and wrist injuries, but fans are hopeful the Australian fighter will return to the men’s game for the hard-court season in the United States.

Djokovic has been spotted practising with his tennis best friend during this summer’s championships and provided a key update on Kyrgios’ fitness following his semi-final win over Lorenzo Musetti.

“I can tell you that a few days ago, when we were practicing, I think it was Thursday, he hit a really good serve and he said, ‘Well, I could come back at the US Open,’ so I don’t know if he was joking or not,” Djokovic said.

“But let me tell you, he’s hitting the ball better than ever. He’s very talented. He’s very good at tennis.

‘I think he said his wrist bothers him most on the serve, but he’s been increasing the load, intensity and speed.

“He’s not looking for maximum pace or a full-force serve, but he’s close to achieving it. He’s close to achieving it.”
