Ice hockey star Erik Karlsson has confirmed his investment in League One minnows Burton Albion.
The 34-year-old Swedish defenseman, star of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, is part of the Nordic Group, along with the Norwegian winger of the Minnesota Wild Mats Zuccarelo, who bought ‘The Brewers’ at the beginning of the month and last week named the former The Chelsea development coach, Mark Robinson, as their new coach.
Karlsson, a self-confessed Arsenal fan, said: “I have always been a big fan of English football and now I have one more reason to look forward to the start of the new season.
“I am very excited to be part of the Burton Albion family as part of the Nordic Football Group.
“This is a club with a lot of potential and I can’t wait to get to the Pirelli Stadium to see my first game in the stands.”

As the name suggests, the investors are a group from across the Nordic region, including the two current NHL players.
One of them is former Bolton Wanderers player Olafur Pall Snorrason, from Iceland.
The other Norwegian sporting director, Bendik Hareide, son of former Manchester City midfielder and current Iceland coach Age Hareide, who oversaw the victory over England at Wembley on Friday.
