Joe Biden leads Donald Trump by double digits in the key electoral battleground state of Pennsylvania, where the president was born, according to a surprising new poll.

It was rare good news for Biden in the polls, after recent polls showed him trailing Trump in a number of swing states.

The Franklin & Marshall College poll released Thursday shows Biden at 48 percent among registered voters in Pennsylvania and Trump at 38 percent.

It came a day after first lady Jill Biden rejected against reports that her husband is behind Trump.

“No, he’s not losing in every battleground state,” he told CBS Mornings on Wednesday.

Pennsylvania was one of the biggest battlegrounds in the 2016 and 2020 elections, and it will be again this time.

The latest poll shows that when possible third-party candidates are included, the race is much closer.

In that scenario, Biden obtains 42 percent in the polls compared to Trump’s 40 percent. Robert Kennedy Jr. polls at 9 percent, while Green Party candidate Jill Stein polls at 3 percent.

Biden won the state by just over 80,000 votes in 2020.

The new poll found that registered voters in Pennsylvania believe Biden better understands ordinary Americans’ concerns about Trump by 41 to 37 percent.

It also found Biden to be more honest and trustworthy at 43 percent to Trump’s 28 percent.

Biden leads on who has the character and good judgment to be president by 44 to 31 percent.

However, 40 percent also said Biden, 81, was too old to serve, while only 6 percent said Trump, 77, was too old. Another 40 percent said they are both too old.

The poll showed that voters said Biden had the views closest to their own on abortion, the top issue in the state.

But Trump did better in handling the economy by 48 to 39 percent. He is also seen as the candidate to best handle the job as Army commander in chief by 43 to 41 percent.

While the Franklin & Marshall poll showed Biden with a sizable lead in the state, several other polls conducted in Pennsylvania in March showed the race tied or Trump with a slight lead.

On Wednesday, a Wall Street Journal survey found that Biden lost to Trump in six of seven key states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada and Pennsylvania. They were tied in Wisconsin.

Responding to that, Jill Biden said: ‘I feel like Joe will be re-elected. He is equal or better. So you know what? Once people start focusing and seeing their two options, it will be obvious that Joe will win this election.’

President Biden has rejected the polling numbers, saying it is too early to believe them.

He has also accused the media of not reporting on polls that are favorable to him.

“While we probably haven’t read much about it, there have been several national polls in recent days that show us now in the lead,” Biden said during a campaign stop last week in Raleigh, North Carolina.
