A dispute between neighbours in one of Australia’s most desirable suburbs over a common parking problem has left neither side happy with the outcome.
A woman from the Sydney coastal suburb of Manly was so frustrated by her neighbour’s inconsiderate parking that she reported him to the Northern Beaches Council, resulting in him being fined.
She admitted that doing so was “petty” but wrote on social media that she was fed up with the “nasty guy” parking in front of her house.
She claimed the man’s “loud, oversized vehicle is permanently protruding from her property, partially blocking the sidewalk,” and posted a photo to back it up.
Despite being parked in your driveway, parking this way is illegal and punishable by a $283 fine on Sydney’s northern beaches, and sometimes more in other council areas.
The council has confirmed that the man was fined, although his neighbour says he continues to do so.
“This noise-polluting monstrosity should be banned,” the woman said of the large truck seen with its tray sticking out from the sidewalk in the photo she posted on Facebook.
He added that the van could “at least be parked on the street (preferably not ours).”

According to Northern Beaches Council regulations, “residents must not park in or across a driveway (including their own)” to ensure pedestrian safety and access.
“Make sure your car is within the front property line or parked safely on the street,” the advice states.
Despite the fine, his neighbour was shocked to see “the driver’s pride and joy still there” in the driveway.
The fed up woman turned to social media for advice.
“Revenge is unfortunately not mine,” he wrote.
‘I received an email from the council today saying the matter has been resolved.

The ongoing parking saga has divided local residents.
“I’m surprised he doesn’t get fined because he blocks the passage of strollers and wheelchairs,” wrote one.
Another added: “It’s a bit dangerous. Also, disabled people or children on bikes could crash into it.”
Others came to the neighbors’ defense, suggesting the woman stop complaining and mind her own business.
“You sound like one of those neighbors who sticks his nose into other people’s business,” wrote one.
Another added: “Parking sucks but it doesn’t seem to affect you. Take a deep breath and stop worrying about things that don’t really matter.”
