Police were called to Cockatoo Trail in Mount Coot-tha, west of Brisbane, on Sunday morning after reports a man had attempted to sexually assault a 25-year-old woman.

The hiker was pushed to the ground and restrained, according to 9NEWS.

The attacker fled the scene on foot.
