A gym employee used his martial arts skills to take down a suspected car thief and credited his training for allowing him to fend off his attacker.
On Monday, Gavin Archer, 18, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt, was working at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, when he noticed a man allegedly looking at cars outside.
When Gavin went to confront him, the man lunged at him.
The 18-year-old was able to quickly subdue his attacker using his Jiu Jitsu skills.
CCTV footage shows Gavin taking advantage by using a judo throw to knock the man to the ground.

When Archer opens the door to speak to a man, who was supposedly looking through the car windows outside the gym, he is suddenly attacked.
The man the archer managed to knock down was named Andrew Wilkerson, who said the incident was a misunderstanding. Wilkerson, who worked in the auto shop next to the gym, said he was trying to use the keys to get into the car in front of the shop because he fit the description of the next car on the list that needed to be worked on. Archer then proceeded to confront him, thinking he was stealing.

After landing several blows to the man’s face, he manages to put him in a headlock and neutralize him.
The video was first shared on a Facebook post by one of the gym’s instructors, who praised the young instructor’s skills.
The post reads: “Due to G’s years of martial arts and Jiu Jitsu training, he was able to minimize the blows being thrown at him using judo, throwing the man to the ground, securing his back, and strangling him unconscious to eliminate the threat. immediate danger in order to call the police.
‘THIS is why Jiu Jitsu saves lives. Imagine if G had no training when this man attacked him. He could be seriously injured or killed.”

“I was getting a little nervous and he just attacked me. “Everything happened so fast that you don’t really have time to think,” Archer said.
However, the man who was hit by Archer, Andrew Wilkerson, refuted her claims and said it was all a misunderstanding. He told I-Team 8 that he was simply doing his job as a mechanic at the auto shop next to the gym.
Wilkerson went on to tell I-Team 8 that he was trying to use the keys to get into the car in front of the shop because it fit the description of the next car on the list that needed to be worked on.

“I tried for a couple of minutes and, as you can see in the video, I started walking back to my tent.”
That’s when the teen came to the door to confront Wilkerson.
“He’s saying things like don’t go anywhere and I’ll call the police,” Wilkerson went on to say.
‘I’ve worked there for a few months, I know what the gym does, I know this guy is a trained fighter, so when he says don’t go anywhere… the last thing I want to do now is turn around. and not being able to see him behind me.’
Wilkerson explained that he took a stance and raised his voice. “I took a step and said, hey, listen to me… he took a step back and pushed the gym door all the way open, which in the situation looked like he was coming at me next.”
After that, Wilkerson said he “just reacted and went after him.”
He also told the news outlet that Archer was the one who escalated the situation, but the martial arts instructor said that goes against his martial arts training.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, no arrests were made.
As of Tuesday, Wilkerson no longer works at the auto shop.
