Ruud van Nistelrooy will reportedly seal a sensational return to Manchester United as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff this summer.
Van Nistelrooy, who took charge of PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands between 2022 and 2023, is said to be in talks over a return to Old Trafford.
United are likely to shake up Ten Hag’s squad ahead of pre-season after deciding to keep him in charge following an end-of-season review, and club legend Van Nistelrooy has been identified as a potential assistant coach.
Dutch exit Algemeen Dagblad (AD) has stated that there is enthusiasm for a deal from both parties and Van Nistelrooy is expected to sign a long-term contract.
Since stepping down as PSV coach, citing a lack of support from the board, Van Nistelrooy has held talks with several clubs to become their head coach.

Indeed, Burnley, Club Brugge and other teams from Germany and Spain are believed to have pounced on the big Red Devils, although they will now miss out.
AD adds that Van Nistelrooy is enjoying the challenge ahead at United.
Appointing the 47-year-old would represent a significant statement from INEOS, with United’s hierarchy keen to imprint their own identity on the style of play.
Van Nistelrooy spent four years at United and scored 150 goals in 217 games. He also won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield.
He impressed during his two years in charge of PSV, having helped the club lift the KNVB Cup in 2023 and finishing his tenure with a 65 percent winning percentage.

Mitchell van der Gaag (left) and Steve McLaren (right) have helped Ten Hag since his arrival.
However, his surprise return to United, which has developed rapidly in recent days, is likely to raise questions about the future of several of Ten Hag’s other managers.
Benni McCarthy, who led United’s forward training, is out of contract next month and there has been no movement from the club on an extension.
Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McLaren have been Ten Hag’s deputies since his appointment, while Eric Ramsey departed for Minnesota United earlier this year.
Ten Hag is in talks with United over a new deal after being asked to remain in his role while on holiday in Ibiza, but a deal is yet to be agreed.
Any potential coaching appointment at the club is likely to be completed before his team returns for pre-season next month.
United have refused to comment, insisting Ten Hag’s extension is their priority.
