Paul Townend’s Lossiemouth cruised to victory in the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham on Tuesday, beating Rachael Blackmore’s Telmesomethinggirl in a thrilling finish.
Telmesomethinggirl looked guaranteed victory after advancing down the stretch, but 13/8 favorite Lossiemouth took victory on another success from Townend and Willie Mullins.
In third place finished Spanish Moon, ridden by Darragh O’Keeffe.
Speaking after the race, Townend was impressed after completing a hat-trick of wins.
“She’s brilliant,” he said. I suppose the route she has come from is well documented. They have been patient, but now it is paying off.
Paul Townend claimed another victory at Cheltenham as he guided Lossiemouth (pictured) to win the Mares’ Hurdle.
A sensational day continued for Townend, who enjoyed his third success of the day.
‘There was a question mark over his stamina, but I never doubted it. They were push-a-button things.
‘It’s pretty easy when you ride very good horses. It’s funny this place, it’s very easy when you’re in a good place and very, very difficult (otherwise). I’m privileged.’
