A Los Angeles gynecologist renounced his medical license for allegedly pushing Jesus on a patient who had undergone an abortion.

Dr Lucien Cox, 75, was also criticized for allegedly performing a rectal examination on another patient without his consent.

In the interest of a “prompt resolution” of the charges brought against him, including unprofessional conduct and gross negligence, Dr. Cox agreed to have his license revoked and his 35-year career came to an end on Tuesday.

In a California Medical Board disciplinary record obtained by DailyMail.com, an unnamed 63-year-old woman went to Dr. Cox in September 2021 for a routine exam and Pap test.

When asked by a medical assistant about her history of pregnancy terminations, the patient reported an elective abortion in 1987.

When Dr. Cox returned to the room, the patient suggested that she felt uncomfortable when he asked her about her abortion and asked if she ‘had Jesus in her life.’

The record states that when the patient responded that she was not religious, Dr. Cox asked her if she wanted to “go to heaven and avoid the devil.”

The patient further alleged that Dr. Cox stated that “the devil rules that world” and that “I was like you when I was young and I will teach you about Christianity.”

The patient reported that Dr. Cox continued this line of conversation for 15 minutes, during which time he encouraged her to attend his Bible study class that offered counseling for women “suffering from guilt” after an abortion.

When the medical assistant was called back to the room, the record indicates that Dr. Cox proceeded to perform a pelvic examination on the patient.

However, he said the procedure was “extremely uncomfortable, much more than usual” and he “abruptly left” the OB-GYN’s office and did not respond to subsequent calls from Dr. Cox.

Less than a week later, he filed a formal complaint with the Medical Board of California.

While investigating her case, investigators discovered another complaint filed against Dr. Cox with the Los Angeles Police Department.

In October 2014, another patient reported his “inappropriate and unprofessional” behavior during a gynecological exam.

The 42-year-old said she made an appointment with Dr. Cox after experiencing “painful and heavy” periods and bleeding in between.

A previous ultrasound had also revealed fibroids.

The woman said she had requested a female gynecologist and was disappointed when she discovered Dr Cox was a man, “however, she decided to stay for the assessment as she had already arrived for the appointment.”

He found it strange when Dr. Cox asked him about his sexual history when the medical assistant left the room, but did not document the conversation or note it in the patient’s medical record.

The exam took an even more uncomfortable turn, the patient said, when the medical assistant returned and Dr. Cox proceeded with the pelvic exam, saying she “couldn’t feel her uterus because her bladder was full.”

The patient alleged that Dr. Cox, who began practicing in 1979, then attempted to “examine her uterus rectally without warning her first.”

She then reported that Dr. Cox told her to empty her bladder and leave the examination room, but she was so distraught that she went to the bathroom and “called her sister to take her, refused to perform any further examinations, and left the room.” office”.

The next day he filed a formal complaint against Dr. Cox with the Los Angeles police.

The California Medical Board filing notes that the investigation was completed but no criminal charges were filed against Dr. Cox.

However, in light of this incident and the 2021 complaint, the Medical Board of California decided to take disciplinary action against Mr. Cox.

In light of his firing, his attorney, Peter Osinoff, told the Independent if a hearing had been held (Mr. Cox would not have lost his license or been severely disciplined).

He noted that Dr. Cox had “never been the subject of any prior disciplinary action during his long career as a physician” and denied that Dr. Cox had been inappropriate with his religious views or attempted a rectal examination without consent.

Mr. Osinoff concluded: “Rather than proceed to a costly hearing, Dr. Cox decided to give up his license, as he had closed his practice and had been planning to retire from the practice of medicine for some time.”
