The C4 supports Dolby Vision and other leading forms of HDR, meaning you’ll get excellent color reflections when watching HDR-enabled content. I was particularly impressed with the performance when streaming the latest Dune Film that has exceptional color gradation. It also works very well with darker content, such as any game of Thrones either Star Wars Episodes that you might find annoying to watch elsewhere.
Speaking of color: This TV is finally bright enough to compete with LED displays from Samsung and other brands. It peaks at over 1,000 nits, which is a dazzling level in most cases. You can place it in a well-lit room without fear. I did find that the panel can get a little uneven when viewed from extreme side angles (another reviewer called it a little green from the side, but I see it as more of a blue-green tint), so I wouldn’t pick it if you plan on having a lot of seating around the edges of your space.
You’ll want to upgrade your audio. Down-firing speakers don’t sound particularly good on any TV, and the C4 is no exception, but the TV can be synced with sound bars (like the one pictured). LG S95TR) to contribute to a wider soundstage. It’s a good choice for those who prefer to buy products from the same brand and are doing a complete home theater revamp. Just remember to buy a soundbar or external speaker system for a TV like this, or you’ll miss out on the true home theater experience it can provide.
Exceptional image, normal money
When I think about how good this TV looks, whether in game mode, sports mode, or filmmaker mode, I’m surprised that the price starts well below $2000. This TV would have easily cost tens of thousands of dollars just a few years ago, without the technology it uses existing.
You used to have to compromise on color, brightness, or backlighting to get a TV that could play games as well as Spielberg, but that’s no longer the case. With the C4, you can connect your gaming PC and play games as seamlessly as you would with a 4K Blu-Ray player and your favorite movies. Soon, the differences between gaming monitors and TVs will disappear completely.
For now, if you’re looking for a great viewing experience and are willing to spend upwards of a thousand dollars on a TV (and you can get equally good models for much less), you won’t find many models, at any price, that look better than the LG C4. Given how things have been going, I expect to have similar opinions on the C5 next year.
