Kate Hudson has revealed an unusual hygiene habit she shares with her former co-star Matthew McConaughey.
The Bride Wars star, 45, admitted that neither she nor McConaughey, 54, wear deodorant while appearing on Wednesday’s episode. Watch what’s happening live.
“We’re au naturel, you know?” she told host Andy Cohen, after he asked her if it was true that she forced the actor to wear deodorant while filming their 2008 romantic comedy, Fool’s Gold.
“No! He doesn’t use deodorant,” she replied, before adding: “And, by the way, neither do I.”
The actress also revealed that McConaughey has a strong odor and said she could “smell him a mile away.”

The Interstellar star previously spoke out about her stance on deodorant in a 2008 interview with Playboy, saying Hudson hinted that she needed to do something about her body odor.
“He always brings a salt rock, which is a natural deodorant, and he says, ‘Can you put this on, please?'” she said. “I just never used it. No cologne, no deodorant.”
McConaughey added: “Every woman in my life, including my mother, has told me, ‘Hey, your natural scent smells, one, like a man and, two, it smells like you.'”
Despite being anti-deodorant, Matthew insisted he took his personal hygiene seriously, stating he took several showers a day and brushed his teeth up to five times a day.
He just “doesn’t like smelling like someone or something else.”
The Oscar winner first shared his dislike for deodorant in his 2005 Sexiest Man Alive profile, saying People that he hadn’t used it ‘in 20 years’.
In 2021, Matthew’s hygiene habits came up again when his Tropic Thunder co-star Yvette Nicole Brown spoke out about his unique scent.
She recalled: “I remember Matthew McConaughey saying he didn’t wear deodorant and he had no scent. So my first thought was, ‘I’m going to get as close to him as I can to see if he’s right.'”
“He doesn’t have an odor. He smells like granola and good life. He has a very sweet aroma. It’s him, he doesn’t smell musty or crazy.”
The actress also revealed that McConaughey has a strong odor and said she could smell him “a mile away.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Kate said she would be “open” to a sequel to her 2003 film, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
“The only thing that matters is the script and whether Matthew and I like it,” she said. “I think we’re both totally open to it, but it’s never happened.”
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days ended up being a massive hit, tripling its $50 million budget to gross $177.5 million.
The film was inspired by a non-narrative book of the same name filled with comical rules about things to avoid while dating.
McConaughey plays an advertising executive who bets he can make any woman fall in love with him, but his plan backfires when the woman he chooses, a writer, plans to write a story about how she got her boyfriend to break up with her.
Last year, the duo reunited to celebrate the romantic comedy’s 20th anniversary. They reunited virtually in a video chat they posted on Instagram in which they revisited the film.
The topic revolved around their steamy chemistry in the film, which led them to declare that they “kiss nicely” when on screen.
The Almost Famous actress admitted that fans asked her “all the time” what it was like to share a kiss with the True Detective star in their 2003 film.
“It’s all like we’re always in weird environments (when we kiss on screen). It’s never like… there was only one time we kissed that was so nice and soft, in the bathroom,” she said with a laugh, via People.
“Yeah, everything else hasn’t been air-conditioned,” Matthew replied jokingly. “Everything else was like, ‘Swim to the top, get almost eaten by sharks, fall out of a plane 300 feet, stay afloat, and before you catch your breath, you get kissed.'”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Kate said she would be “open” to a sequel to their 2003 film, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – the duo were seen together in 2015 in Los Angeles.
Last year, they celebrated the romantic comedy’s 20th anniversary and declared that they “make out nicely” when they’re on screen.
“When you kiss someone in a movie, it’s professional; we’re actually trying to create something that evokes something in a certain way that might not be exactly the way you would necessarily do it in real life,” Kate responded to clarify.
Despite how artificial a kiss on a film set was, Kate suggested she was still a fan of the experience.
“But as far as our current partners go, we kiss really well. It was always a really nice kiss,” she said, while Matthew “totally” agreed with her.
McConaughey has been married to model Camila Alves since 2012, while Hudson has been in a relationship with Danny Fujikawa since 2016.
