Kamala Harris Responds to President Donald Trump's Allegation That She Never Worked at McDonald's

Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday repeated her claim that she worked at McDonald’s, despite former President Donald Trump repeatedly accusing her of lying about it.

Harris was asked about her job at McDonald’s during an MSNBC interview with correspondent Stephanie Ruhle, who asked if she wanted to ask her about a “little job.”

“There are no small jobs,” Harris protested.

Ruhle referred to a former McDonald’s TV jingle During his question to Harris, he asked if he had ever been served ‘two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions…’

“…and a sesame seed bun,” Harris laughed as she completed the song.

“Yes, I did,” Harris said. “But it wasn’t a small job, like, for example, I made the French fries. I mean, you know, I did it.”

Harris said she liked to talk about the people who worked at McDonald’s because of the struggles employees had trying to raise a family on the limited wages offered by the fast-food chain.

“Part of the reason I talk about working at McDonald’s is because there are people who work at McDonald’s in our country who are trying to raise a family… I worked there when I was a student, I was a kid,” she said.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that Harris is lying about her job at McDonald’s, as the vice president has yet to offer any proof of employment there.

Harris recited an old McDonald’s jingle about the Big Mac during the interview.

“She said, ‘I was a McDonald’s worker and I was standing by the French fries,'” Trump said at a rally Tuesday.

Trump has hinted at the idea of visiting a McDonald’s and trying his hand at making fries, as Harris claims to have done.

“I’m going to go to a McDonald’s in the next two weeks and I’m going to stare at the fries because I’m going to see how that wasn’t really their job,” she said.

Since assuming the presidential nomination from Biden in July, Harris’s campaign has made her work at McDonald’s the focus of her biography but has not provided any new evidence of her employment there.

There are no photos of her in a McDonald’s uniform, no pay stubs, and no mention of her or confirmation from McDonald’s corporate headquarters.

Harris campaign officials have repeatedly told media outlets seeking more details about her time at McDonald’s that she worked the cash register and staffed the deep fryer and ice cream machine at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, in the summer of 1983.

Ruhle grilled Harris on other economic issues, asking how she planned to increase housing costs.

Harris said her administration would look at transportation dollars and “take a holistic look at the connection between that and housing and take a holistic look at incentives that we in the federal government can create for state and local governments to really engage in planning in a holistic way that includes prioritizing affordable housing.”
