‘Bittersweet’ victory

Catterall gives his opinion, speaking with DAZN:

Tonight is bittersweet. There are no world titles but I won the fight, we can close that chapter with Josh Taylor.

I think I won the fight, I took more risks. Josh is an elite operator, but I adjusted the gears and even on the rounds where he was more reserved I landed clean.

It was a fight of two halves. I had some minor discomforts but I won the night. A lot of respect for Josh, he had the extra weeks of him and we wanted him at his best. We have shared 24 rounds together.

WIN THE CATTERALL!

It’s an important theme on scorecards. 117-111 to two, 116-113 to one.

Taylor shakes her head. That’s pretty conclusive for me.

Round 12: They both think they have won it…

The final round. The fighters touch gloves before the start.

Taylor is more attacking. He has Catterall against him, but the Englishman holds on.

The final bell rings. Both men raise their hands and both are lifted onto the shoulders of some sort of trainer.

Best of luck. I can’t choose a winner.

Round 11: Both men fall to the ground

Now some shots are coming in that look tired.

The referee has another world halfway. Catterall then attacks and both men fall to the ground. No demolition.

Taylor thinks he’s awake. I’m not so sure.

Round 10: Too close to call

The referee wants to talk to the fighters at the beginning of the round.

Catterall takes a blow to the chin and staggers… but he’s okay.

A good jab from Catterall puts his opponent on defense. Then he has to bend over.

Both men throw hard punches. Then a body shot appears to have injured Catterall.

Matchday nine: encouraging for the local favorite

Catterall is ahead but Taylor is closing in.

A little encouragement for the home man as he puts the Scotsman at a disadvantage.

Both men struggle to land the shots, but Taylor basically fights with one eye.

Surely we are not headed towards another controversial decision…

Round 8: Best of Taylor

Some really good combinations from Caterall.

Taylor is throwing hands but misses. I wonder if the eye is having more of an impact than I thought.

A decent body shot though, I think his best rounds. A good left in the last seconds.

Round 7: Both men going strong

The start of each round now builds excitement for what Catterall will do when it starts.

He is the man who walks forward but is caught with a punch in the center of the ring.

A very good left hand from Taylor, who doesn’t let his hit eye impact him too much.

Round six: Taylor’s eyes close

Jack Catterall has been waiting a long time for this fight and is grabbing it with both hands.

The sixth on offense begins but Taylor returns.

He is still struggling enormously with the lump on his head, which is having a major impact on his right eye.

Fifth round: Catterall on top

It’s Catterall fast again.

Jabs early, then some combinations.

Taylor does well but ends up against the ropes and is somewhat saved by the bell. Brilliant things about English so far.

Round 4: Both men happy to take their time

Catterall attacks again, but Taylor is ready and lands a couple of hard body shots.

Now Taylor is showing patience. She doesn’t want to let emotions come into play: she knows she can do the job.

Third round: Taylor is warned

My God, they crashed again!

A brief pause and they’re fine, but Taylor seems to have come off worse.

Neither of them are taking their time now. Many blows and the referee is not happy with Taylor, who lands one on the back of his head.

Second round: a clash of heads

This is very good from the local favorite. He is looking to finish his work early.

Oh… a clash of heads leads us to a pause.

Both men are fine, fortunately.

First round: Catterall starts well

Jack Catterall’s rematch against Josh Taylor is underway and the Englishman has started well.

Catterall catches his opponent with a strong jab in a matter of seconds.

However, the winner of the first fight stands firm and patient, but Catterall wins the round, for my money!
