Veronica Carrillo was arrested on animal cruelty charges and remains in jail on $100,000 bail.
On June 26, Carillo’s 16-year-old daughter called 911 to report that her mother allegedly tried to burn her cat on the grill, according to a Moore Police Department news release.
Her daughter, who is a minor and whose name was not released, told officers she was looking for the cat when she suddenly heard her pet screaming, court documents revealed.
When he ran to the backyard, he saw “a black garbage bag wrapped around an animal carrier on top of the grill with flames visible underneath,” records showed.

Carillo escaped from the home through a window and was found on a neighbor’s front porch hiding under a rug when officers arrived. KFOR News reported.
Body camera footage captured the sickening details Carillo told officers: “I was cooking and the cat got burned.”
“I had to do it, you know? I’m sorry,” he said.
The innocent cat survived the ordeal thanks to the quick actions of its owner who saved it from death.

Traumatized but alive, the tortoiseshell cat suffered burns to its paws and whiskers, police said.

A department spokesman said: “Fortunately, the animal was walking, apparently avoided serious injury and is expected to make a full recovery.” The Kansas City Star reported.

Although the officer asks him what he was cooking, Carillo does not answer.
Her family has issued a protective order against her, the outlet said.
Despite being thrown into a garbage bag and placed over a barbecue flame, the cat survived.
Meanwhile, neighbors were horrified to hear the news.
“It’s really heartbreaking to hear this,” Lynn Davis told the outlet.
She called Carrillo’s alleged actions “inhumane” and said she was “totally disgusted.”
“We need to send a message to anyone who abuses any animal, and this is horrible. She should go to jail, possibly prison,” he said.
Carrillo is due back in court later this month, KFOR reported.
