HMV is set to expand its book offering in a bid to boost business before Christmas.

The vinyl and CD store will begin selling literature at its Oxford Street flagship store in central London on November 18.

The move came as boss Doug Putman declared there were “real rumours” about Oxford Street.

Reading gained popularity during the pandemic, with Generation Z sharing their favorite titles on social media.

HMV will dedicate a floor to selling bestsellers, including Tik Tok phenomenon A Court Of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas, as well as classics from the likes of Stephen King and George Orwell.

Putman, the billionaire Canadian owner of HMV, said he was excited by a surge in Christmas sales as the High Street “has rediscovered what makes it special post-Covid”.

He added: “We will only maintain that magic if we continue to innovate and give our buyers reasons to come back to us.”
