German track and field star Alica Schmidt went public with her relationship with her photographer boyfriend after winning her 400 meters heat at the national championships on Saturday.
Schmidt, 25, was dubbed “the world’s sexiest athlete” by Australian magazine Busted Coverage in 2017, and is set to compete at this summer’s Paris Olympics after securing her spot last month.
He continued his good form at the German Championships on Saturday, qualifying for the final with a time of 52.18 seconds, just above his personal best.
After crossing the line with a smile on his face, Schmidt walked up to 27-year-old photographer Fredi Richter-Mendau and they shared a kiss.
According to the German media imageThey have been a couple for about eight years and Schmidt moved to Potsdam, a city on the border with Berlin, so he could be close to Richter-Mendau in 2017.

He is scheduled to compete in the mixed relay at the Paris Olympics this summer.
However, Schmidt, who has more than 5 million followers on Instagram, has never posted a photo of them together on his social media.
They have finally made it public, but Schmidt insists she is fully focused on performing on the court ahead of today’s final, where she is among the favourites.
“To be honest, I’m not even thinking about that (being the favourite),” she told reporters. “I just want to do my best race for myself.”
Since we are competing in relays at the Olympics, I obviously expect us to achieve good times across the board.
‘This is the most important year of my career. That’s why I’m so happy that things are going so well now. In the highlights so far I was able to show what I am capable of and, of course, I hope to continue like this.”
Schmidt has competed at the highest level in athletics for several years, having previously participated in European and world championships.
She made the Olympic team for the relay team in 2021, but ultimately did not run.
Schmidt has been selected for the Paris mixed relay team and hopes to finally hit the track on the biggest stage this time.
Despite thriving as a runner, Schmidt has previously spoken openly about her struggles to live on her salary as an athlete.
Schmidt has been photographed with soccer superstar Neymar in the past.
She has also been photographed with former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
She revealed last year that she only gets paid £600 when her country selects her to compete, insisting her presence on Instagram and TikTok keeps her going.
She also stated that she turned down six-figure contract offers that she “doesn’t feel comfortable with,” and instead decided to focus on her athletic career and growing her social media following.
Schmidt has rubbed shoulders with some of the sport’s biggest superstars, having beaten World Cup-winning footballer Mats Hummels in a race in 2021.
She then challenged Erling Haaland to a race but he is yet to accept, while she has also been pictured with Anthony Joshua and Neymar.
