National Donut Day is right around the corner, and half a dozen chains are offering free donuts to celebrate.
The first Friday in June of each year is celebrated as the national sweet tribute day.
The commemoration began 86 years ago, founded by the Salvation Army in honor of their ‘Donut Lassies’.
The Lassies were female volunteers who traveled to France to care for wounded soldiers in the First World War.
His nickname comes from his habit of making donuts to boost the soldiers’ morale.

On Friday, Duck Donuts will be giving out free cinnamon sugar donuts in stores with no further purchase required.
