NBC News senior vice president of politics Carrie Budoff Brown announced Friday that McDaniel would join the team and contribute expert insights and analysis on politics and 2024.

Sources told The Wall Street Journal that MSNBC president Rashida Jones (pictured) “has no plans to have McDaniel on the channel.”

McDaniel was first elected RNC chairwoman in 2017. Before that, she was chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party and helped deliver the state to Trump in 2016.

She is the granddaughter of the late Michigan Governor George Romney and the niece of Utah Senator Mitt Romney.

But under his leadership of the RNC while Trump was president, Republicans lost the House and Senate and then the White House in 2020.

After Trump lost, the Republican National Committee made multiple allegations of voter fraud and McDaniel helped promote multiple falsehoods about the election.

In 2022, under his leadership, the RNC also voted on a censure resolution, condemning then-Rep. Liz Cheney and then-Rep. Adam Kinzinger, two Republican members of the House January 6 committee.

Brown announced McDaniel’s hiring in a memo to staff Friday that said, “It couldn’t be a more important time to have a voice like Ronna’s on the team.” As chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, she spent nearly eight years at the highest levels of American politics before resigning earlier this year.

“As we prepare for the longest general election in recent memory, she will support our leading coverage by providing an inside perspective on national politics and on the future of the Republican Party.”

She made her debut as a contributor in a very controversial episode of the Sunday show. Meet the press where host Kristen Welker pressed McDaniel on a 2020 phone call he had with Trump in which appeared to pressure two election officials in Wayne County, Michigan, not to certify the 2020 vote.

McDaniel defended his actions, saying: ‘There were some problems in Wayne County. They have been consistent. They have been well documented in subsequent elections. And they said, as pollsters, “we think we should do an audit before we certify.”

‘Our call that night was to say, “Are you okay?” That’s my memory. It was three and a half years ago.

The former chairman of the Republican National Committee admitted that Biden won the election “fairly and equitably” and affirmed that “he is the legitimate president.”

‘He is the president. He is the legitimate president. “I have always said, and continue to say, that there were problems in 2020. I think both things can be true.”

He also said he disagrees with Trump’s plan to release people convicted of committing crimes during the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

“I don’t think the people who committed violence on January 6 should be free,” McDaniel said.
