Fans got their first glimpse of actor Jeremy Allen White playing Bruce Springsteen in an upcoming biopic, raising questions about The Bar star’s resemblance to the iconic musician.
A photo released Monday by 20th Century Studios shows White, 33, wearing a leather jacket over a flannel button-down shirt for the film Deliver Me From Nowhere, which is scheduled for release in 2025.
While the Golden Globe winner may have captured Springsteen’s haunting look, users on social media insisted he looks nothing like the rocker.
“Sorry, I love JAW and I’m sure he’ll do great, but he’s nothing like Bruce Springsteen and I think this is a very strange casting choice,” wrote one X user.

Deliver Me From Nowhere will focus on Bruce Springsteen creating his 1982 album Nebraska
Deliver Me From Nowhere focuses on Springsteen creating his 1982 album Nebraska.
In the early 1980s, The Boss was known for his simple and classic style and often wore jeans, flannels, T-shirts and leather jackets.
White imitating Springsteen’s style choices in the photo wasn’t enough to convince many that he’s the right person to play the American-born singer.
Some on social media claimed the image showed nothing more than “Jeremy Allen White in a plaid shirt.’
“So Jeremy Allen White as…Jeremy Allen White…in denim,” one X user wrote.
“He still looks like Jeremy Allen White in a Bruce Springsteen suit,” another added.
another one wrote: “This is the most Jeremey Allen White that Jeremy Allen White has ever looked.”
However, other social media users were excited to see White playing Springsteen.
Several X users insisted that White looks nothing like Springsteen
‘I’m excited to see Jeremy Allen White bring Bruce Springsteen to life! Can’t wait for the movie to hit theaters!’, an X user aware.
Another claimed that the actor can’bring intense‘ to paper.
‘I can see it. He has that somewhat rugged “handsome-ugly” look that Brue had in his youth,’ another wrote.
Some users were excited to see White play Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere
Deliver Me From Nowhere was an adaptation of a book of the same name written by Warren Zane. The film’s writer-director Scott Cooper called the production an “incredibly humbling and exhilarating journey.”
“The album’s raw, unvarnished depiction of life’s trials and resilience resonates deeply with me,” Cooper said in a declaration to variety.
“Our film aims to capture that same spirit, bringing Warren Zanes’ compelling narrative of Bruce’s life to the screen with authenticity and hope, honoring Bruce’s legacy in a transformative cinematic experience.”
Filming will primarily take place on location in New York and New Jersey, but occasional scenes will be filmed in Los Angeles.
Allen’s co-stars include Jeremy Strong, Odessa Young and Stephen Graham.
Allen had been the “best choice” to play Springsteen. His participation in the film was officially confirmed in April 2024.
Actor Bear was the “first choice” to play Springsteen and was confirmed as the film’s lead in April.
White revealed to Deadline last month how “excited” he was to star in the film.
“I can say that I have a really lovely team of people helping me and Bruce has been really lovely, understanding and available which has made this whole process an extra joy,” White said.
Springsteen spoke about the upcoming biopic earlier this month, saying he felt good about “the whole project.”
“I’ve seen the scripts and I’ve talked to the director,” Springsteen said.
“They’re just putting it all together, so I don’t have much to say about it, but I’m excited for it to happen.”
