Two men wearing balaclavas and armed with a gun were arrested after a police chase near the home of nightclub king John Ibrahim in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Thursday morning.

A police operation was launched on George Street, Dover Heights, after police received reports from a member of the community that two men, aged 20 and 24, were acting suspiciously and one of them was allegedly carrying a weapon.

NSW Police Eastern Suburbs Crime Manager Adam Solah said police launched a pursuit of the two men in their vehicle which ended after “violent struggles” on Old South Head Rd in Bondi.

He said one of the men was arrested while still sitting in the car, but the other man allegedly fled on foot before being arrested a “short distance” away.

Inspector Solah praised the two officers who “fought” with both men despite knowing they were possibly armed.

Police will allege they also found a loaded semi-automatic firearm and a revolver in the car.

Although the men were seen near Ibrahim’s house, Inspector Solah said police were still investigating why the two were allegedly there armed.

“At this time it does not appear that the men are linked to that area at all and came from an area outside of Dover Heights,” he said.

“Why they were there will be a key line of our investigation.”

Detectives were seen speaking to Mr Ibrahim at his home shortly after the arrests.

Inspector Solah urges anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

“There are no further threats on George Street, but police will maintain a high presence (during their investigation),” he said.

“This is an isolated incident, there is no further threat to the public.”

Police blocked roads into Dover Heights as a PolAir helicopter circled overhead in the affluent coastal suburb in pursuit of the two men.

A black Range Rover was later seen leaving the area under police escort at around 10am.

Plainclothes detectives were seen patrolling the street and talking to residents of the wealthy coastal enclave on Thursday afternoon.

Police will allege they also found a loaded semi-automatic firearm and a revolver in the car.
