The desperate search for a missing father and son prospecting in the country’s remote interior has ended in tragedy.

James Dempsey, 33, and his father Ray, 66, were found in the remote outback of Western Australia, surrounding the pastoral station of Polelle, about 60 kilometers south of Meekatharra.

The couple was reported missing on Saturday when a station worker notified police that they had not returned to their campsite since Friday morning.

A huge ground and air search was launched, using highly trained aircraft, helicopters, drones and trackers from the tactical response group.

Temperatures in Meekatharra soared above 40 degrees Celsius over the weekend.

“The deaths are not considered suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” a WA Police spokesperson said.

In August 2021, 83-year-old Trevor McDonald also went missing while prospecting near Meekatharra.

His wife raised the alarm when he did not return to his caravan.

His body has never been found.

WA’s most high-profile missing finder case was the disappearance of a married couple near Sandstone in March 2015.

Jennie, 49, and Raymond Kehlet, 47, were last seen near the town of Sandstone, about 700 kilometers northeast of Perth, in March 2015, after going out with their friend Graham Milne to pan for gold. on a 10-day camping trip.

But police began an intensive search after the couple’s pet dog turned up alone at the Sandstone caravan park nine days later.

A horrifying discovery was made three weeks later, when the decomposing corpse of Mr. Kehlet The body was found at the bottom of a 12-meter abandoned mine shaft.

Mrs. Kehlet’s body has never been found.
