Piers Morgan believes Bukayo Saka has “demolished his demons” after scoring in England’s penalty shoot-out win over Switzerland in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.
Three years ago, Saka stepped up to take England’s fifth penalty in the Euro 2019 final against Italy and his effort was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma as the Azzurri lifted the trophy at Wembley.
He endured a torrent of racist abuse after his miss but had the courage to step forward again on Saturday night after England’s clash with Switzerland ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.
Saka converted England’s third penalty and slotted the ball into the bottom corner, putting a huge smile on his face.
Morgan was quick to react to the moment, posting on X: ‘BUKAYO! Demons demolished.

It was a ‘moment of redemption’ for Saka after his devastating goal in the Euro 2021 final
Another fan agreed with Morgan’s assessment, adding: “A moment of redemption. A moment of courage. A moment of ecstasy.”
‘Bukayo Saka is HIM.’
It was clear to see how delighted Saka was after being under immense pressure, with one fan admitting the moment was “amazing for him”.
Saka’s confident penalty allowed England to maintain their momentum after Manuel Akanji’s earlier miss, and Gareth Southgate’s men eventually prevailed 5-3 on penalties after converting all five of their attempts.
The Arsenal striker was also excellent in normal time, bailing England out after they fell behind thanks to a close-range Breel Embolo goal.
The Three Lions looked to be heading for victory, but Saka cut inside to curl a fantastic shot into the bottom corner to equalise for his side as the clock ran down.
Saka was named man of the match after a brilliant all-round performance.
Playing in an unfamiliar right-back role for most of the match, Saka was a constant threat and was deservedly awarded man of the match.
