Daniel Ings recalled a raucous party at drama school where he met his The Gentleman co-star Theo James.
Theo, 39, plays fictional lead character Eddie Horniman in the series, who inherits his father’s considerable estate and the secret marijuana farm beneath it, with Daniel, 38, playing his on-screen older brother, Freddie.
But the actor has revealed that their relationship actually began much earlier, when the duo were studying together at Bristol Old Vic Theater School.
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning, Daniel candidly revealed that he bumped into Theo, then a “roaring drunk”, at a house party.
He told presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary: “I was playing chess with someone in the room and he came in. “He later came back and said: ‘Are you still playing?’ You know there’s a party out there!”

Daniel continued: ‘An hour later he came roaring drunk and knocked down the chess board and threw it across the room and shouted, “Stop playing chess!”
“Later, everyone had their faces pressed to the window while he set off fireworks in the garden with his bare hands.”
In The Gentlemen, Theo plays the fictional main character Eddie, who inherits “his father’s important estate only to discover” that it is a “marijuana empire owned by the legendary Mickey Pearson.”
In the series, a host of unsavory characters from the British criminal underworld want a piece of Eddie’s operation.
Determined to free his family from their clutches, Eddie attempts to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he becomes sucked into the world of crime, he begins to find a taste for it.
Daniel’s character Freddie, the eldest son of the former Duke of Halstead, gets into trouble when he ends up owing a Scouse drug-dealing family £8 million.
After making a deal with the family on this brother’s behalf, Eddie tells Freddie that he must dress like a chicken to perform for the traffickers.
Addressing the scene, Daniel added: ‘The chicken suit combination was real. It was my first and I was mentally preparing myself for it.
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning, Daniel revealed how he bumped into Theo, then a “roaring drunk”, when they were both studying at Bristol Old Vic Theater School.
He said, “I was playing chess with someone in the living room and he came in completely drunk and knocked over the chess board and threw it across the room and yelled, ‘Stop playing chess!'” (Daniel, Kaya Scodelario and Theo)
He continued, “They called cut annoyingly and we were all like, ‘Nooo,’ but they managed to keep it in the episode.”
The trailer begins with Theo’s character, Eddie Horniman, attending his father Archibald’s funeral, at which he inherits his estate and becomes duke.
Talking to his brother Freddy (Daniel Ings), Eddie tells him: “I didn’t ask for any of this. The title has no practical value. The business is broken. There are holes in the ceiling, the staff are rebelling and you, brother, You’re a coke-snorting idiot.’
Eddie then meets Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), who tells him that she “used to be in business” with her father.
As she took him around the estate, she said: “It must have been a shock for me to inherit a house, a title.
“As the new owner, you will receive a significant amount of money in exchange for allowing us to carry out our activities.”
Eddie then discovers that the property is an integral part of a cannabis empire in which various unsavory members of the British underworld want a piece of the pie.
But it seems his new business ventures are too much for Eddie when he is heard saying, “I’m going to eliminate your interest in this property.”
