Police have released CCTV images and a man they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

A man distracted a staff member and allegedly stole a very rare bottle of whiskey worth $62,000 from a downtown liquor store.

The alleged incident occurred when the man entered the Crown Melbourne liquor store near Whiteman St in Southbank, Melbourne, at approximately 5.20pm on May 22.

The man started a conversation with the employee and asked to look at several bottles of alcohol.

As she turned to grab the bottles, the man allegedly grabbed a limited edition bottle of Johnnie Walker Masters of Flavor off the shelf.

Police allege he hid the bottle in the front of his shorts and left the store.

The Johnnie Walker Masters of Flavour bottle has a retail value of $62,000.

Police have released CCTV images and a man they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia that the suspected robber has not yet been arrested.
