Rishabh Pant has made steady gains since returning to action after recovering from an injury sustained due to a car accident. In what has been a poor start to the season for Delhi Capitals, captain Rishabh Pant’s form has been a silver lining for the team. Slowly but surely, Pant is returning to his form. He hit a well-crafted 55 against KKR on Wednesday, his second half-century of the IPL 2024. After the match, he met KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan and posted a picture of the meeting with an emotional message.
“Always good to see you Bhaiya as hot as ever,” he wrote on his Instagram Story.
Former England skipper Eoin Morgan opened Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant’s whirlwind 55-run against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and said the wicketkeeper-batsman is currently looking good after his return of an injury. Rishabh returned to competitive cricket in this edition of the IPL after surviving a life-threatening car accident in December 2022. Although his comeback inning against Punjab Kings was disappointing of just 18 runs, Pant has shown improvement in his next inning. . During the match against KKR, Pant registered back-to-back half-centuries and scored 55 in 25 balls, with four boundaries and five sixes.
While speaking to JioCinema, Morgan said that he and others cannot believe Pant’s progress in the game after sustaining injuries due to a car accident.
The former cricketer added that the DC skipper needs some help from his teammates like Mitchell Marsh, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw.
“Rishabh Pant certainly looks good and many people including myself cannot believe his progress physically, mentally and his performance on the field. There is one thing about getting your own body and mind right, there is another thing that you get on the field. He leads his team and he actually leads quite well. Plus he needs some help. He needs to get more out of the likes of Mitchell Marsh, more runs from David Warner and a lot more from Prithvi Shaw,” Morgan said to JioCinema.
He is the fourth highest run-getter in the league so far, with 152 runs in four matches at an average of 38.00 and a strike rate of over 158. His best score is 55 and he has so far scored two fifties.
In summary, KKR’s target of 273 proved too high for DC as they gave in to pressure and ultimately suffered a 106-run defeat.
The pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora took two wickets each to reduce DC to 33/4 in the powerplay.
These early blows derailed DC’s approach to chasing down the huge total, becoming more challenging with each delivery.
Ultimately, the required pace proved too high as they ultimately suffered a 106-point defeat.
