A tourist caught attention while walking down a street in Bali looking like an “Egyptian mummy”, but there is a serious explanation.

Dressed in a black shirt and matching shorts and sandals, the injured man was filmed walking cautiously in front of shops in Canggu wearing bandages on his face, arms and hands, knees, legs and both feet.

The amazing video titled ‘Bali Kiss Canggu Tattoos Unfiltered’ has gone viral after it was posted on social media.

‘Wow. Next level scooter accident,” a man explained in the video.

‘Bali kisses to the next level. The Mummy. Luckily, still in one piece. Incredible!’

“Bali kiss” is the term given to a tourist who falls off his or her scooter or motorbike on the holiday island.

The clip sparked a wide range of reactions from viewers, from horror to amusement.

“If you’ve been to Bali this is funny because you see a bunch of white people with bandages everywhere and you know they’re scooter accidents,” one commented.

Another joked: “That’s more than a kiss, at least it’s second base.”

“I think he was actually on his way to audition for the new Mummy movie,” one said.

Others were quick to criticize the tourists’ “silly” antics, with many saying visitors to Thailand were also often seen covered in bandages from similar accidents.

“In Thailand I call it mummy season,” one wrote.

‘The way I see foreigners flying around here is never going to end well!’ wrote one Bali resident.

Another wrote: ‘They (tourists) have never driven a bicycle in their life, but they think that since we are in Asia, they can handle it. I see so many accidents every day… please be careful.’

But the original author of the video later explained that he had since been in contact with the tourist, who told him what really happened.

“It was an accident, his phone fell off the bike and he instinctively went towards it and lost control, nothing dangerous or stupid, he just went straight to the asphalt and got a lot of friction (sic),” he wrote.

‘We agree together that the video is funny and doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings (fortunately it doesn’t have any more serious consequences than a body covered in bandages).

“Maybe it’s a fun way to remind people how dangerous it can be to ride a bike and always be very careful with your eyes on the road.”

The poster in the video said he had been in contact with the tourist and explained that he was not being reckless with his scooter: his phone fell off the bike and when he instinctively went to get it, it crashed.

Many tourists appreciated the reminder to be careful when renting scooters on the island.

‘It’s great that you posted this to remind others to be careful. I would prefer not to ride a bike in Bali. Especially when it’s normal to bump elbows and shins in Kuta traffic,” one wrote.

Others were stunned to see that the tourist was still unharmed after the mishap.

‘I’m glad it’s just a few bandages. It could have been much worse. I hope he recovers well,” commented another.
