Concern over Alvarez’s workload
By Henry Winter. Julián Álvarez’s season will have lasted a year by the end of the Olympics, if Argentina goes far.
This figure is actually not exact, as the 24-year-old is still participating in the Olympic Games.
I guess he had nine days off. At least City aren’t in pre-season or anything…
There is a bit of an asterisk, so to speak, hanging over Argentina following their Copa America victory last week.
They had just established themselves as the dominant team in men’s international football when midfielder Enzo Fernandez filmed himself singing what has been described as a “racist” song aimed at some of France’s players.
Teammates have responded and all sorts of investigations are underway. Click below for more information.
How does the tournament work?
Let’s think about a simpler Euro 2024.
Sixteen teams participate, divided into four groups, and the top two in each group advance to the playoffs.
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will then be played.
Why isn’t all football this simple?
Below is a screenshot from the Olympics website, showing Group A.
The Moroccan national team will face Argentina
El Kajoui, Hakimi, Boukamir, Ben Seghir, El Khannouss, Rahimi, Akhomach, El Ouahdi, Targhalline, El Azzouzi, Richardson.
PSG’s Achraf Hakimi starts at right back and is the team captain.
Saint-Etienne’s Benjamin Bouchouari is only on the bench at the stadium where his club plays.
The Argentine team will face Morocco
The Spanish team played a key role in the development of the team, and in the development of the team, the team was the first to play in the team’s history.
Javier Mascherano gives all his big names a starting role.
Four world champions on display
In addition to the trio of over-23s, Thiago Almada will also be present in Paris.
In an U-23 tournament, that’s not bad.
According to Sky Bet, Argentina are 5/2 to win gold, second favourites behind France. Morocco are fourth at 10/1.
So this match is important and I think the news about the team is yet to come, there are 50 minutes left until kick-off.
Argentina seeks gold
Argentina has been by far the most successful men’s team in recent years.
They have won two consecutive Copa Américas, as well as the 2022 World Cup, essentially under the leadership of Lionel Messi.
Now they want the Olympics.
Of course, only three players over the age of 23 can be named and, unfortunately, Messi will not be there, but goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli, Julián Álvarez and Nicolás Otamendi will be.
Alvarez won the Copa America just nine days ago…
