The 84-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was apparently travelling to Denia with her daughter-in-law, who was driving the vehicle.

Although the incident is under investigation, authorities believe it was most likely an accident. Police said the retiree may have mistaken the door to the motorhome for the bathroom door.

At that moment another passing vehicle ran over the woman, who died instantly.

The motorhome apparently continued on its way, but local police found the driver at a service station 8.5 kilometres from the scene of the accident.

The driver stopped at a gas station after realizing her mother-in-law had disappeared from the vehicle.

He then reportedly called a worker for help, explaining that he had heard a loud bang coming from the back of the vehicle before realizing his traveling companion was no longer there.

According to Telecinco, the woman’s daughter-in-law, who owned the vehicle, has not been charged with any crime.

Meanwhile, investigators have ruled out the possibility of a third person being on board the vehicle.
