Aldi Australia has announced the return of its Oodie clone, with the popular purchase still priced the same as two years ago.
The $29 Snuggle Hoodie will be available in stores starting July 20, but stock is expected to fly off shelves quickly as it’s a best-seller.
Aldi caused a stir when it first launched its own hooded blanket in 2022, with Oodie founder Davie Fogarty defending the high quality of his brand.
But customers are struggling to move beyond the middle option, which is priced at a third of what is available from the original brand.
Aldi boasts that its new generation of hoodies are better than ever, noting that they have a “packable” design that can be easily rolled up to store in an easy-to-carry carry bag.
The popular unisex hoodies are made of “ultra soft” 100% polyester fleece with the iconic giant front kangaroo pocket.
They also have the famous sherpa lining that made the original Oodies popular.
Aldi’s dupe designs include a pastel-coloured doughnut offering and a bolder black version with burgers all over it.
The ultra-soft adult hoodies come in exciting new patterns, like a pastel donut design and a black hoodie with burgers all over.
The next generation hoodie comes in a “packable” design that can be easily rolled up for storage in an easy-to-carry carry bag.
The kids’ version sells for $19.99 and comes in fun dinosaur, watermelon and unicorn prints.
Kids have the added option of choosing between an all-over print sweatshirt or the added craziness of the glow-in-the-dark version.
Both the adult and child versions are one size fits all.
With the cost of living crisis, hoodies offer an affordable way to stay warm while saving on heating costs.
Davie Fogarty, creator of the original Oodie, finds it “flattering” that retailers such as Aldi have decided to copy his design after it became an international sensation during the 2020 lockdowns.
Copies of the item are now sold everywhere, but Mr Fogarty defends Oodie and its “superior product quality”.
Oodie has recently launched a series of cheeky ads targeting brands that have launched cheaper knockoffs.
The hero slogan “You wouldn’t hug sandpaper” appears in advertisements with the promise that the original wearable blankets will stay softer, longer.
