A young woman’s confusion over what to do with her cash has reignited debate over whether Australia should become a cashless society.

Jasmine Hermione, a 19-year-old from the Gold Coast, received $10 from a Facebook Marketplace sale, but didn’t know what to do with the money.

“What are we doing with cash these days?” he asked in a video earlier this month.

“Where the hell do I put it? What do I do with this?”

Am I really going to go to the bank and deposit $10? Am I going to spend it?

Ms Hermione explained that she usually only carries her phone, which she uses to pay.

“I never carry a purse, to be honest, I don’t even know if I have one,” she said.

Commentators were shocked by Ms Hermione’s confusion and said her video was a sign that Australia will soon become cashless.

“Wow, here’s the end. Once a generation has to wonder what to do with cash, we can be sure that a cashless society will be created,” wrote one.

“You know you can buy things with cash, right?” said another.

“Is this really a question?” wrote another.

Ms Hermione did not expect such a negative response to her video and said she and her friends often struggle to use the money they receive.

“I was actually quite surprised by the comments because I think, at least for my age, nobody uses cash and often my friends have the same problem,” she said. Yahoo Finance.

“…I always use ApplePay, so my card is on my phone and I don’t need to carry a wallet or even a purse with me.”

Fortunately, some commentators offered Ms. Hermione some helpful suggestions.

“Keep it for an emergency, like when the EFTPOS system fails or in shops that only accept cash. I always keep cash for situations like that,” said one.

“I just leave it in the car or on my nightstand until I need to use cash,” wrote another.

Another suggested: ‘Put it in a small jar and if you get more money you can put it all away, or go buy yourself a little treat for now!’

Mrs. Hermione liked the last suggestion better and began creating a cash register.

“I’m not sure what the money jar will be used for yet, maybe for the vacation I plan to take next year, all I know is that it’s something fun,” she said.
