A facial plastic surgeon has revealed three cosmetic treatments he doesn’t ask his patients to perform as often – and which ones they are opting to perform instead.

The information was shared in a new video posted on TikTok by California-based expert Dr. Prem Tripathi, who is the owner of Plastic Surgery in Bay Hills.

Tripathi often takes to her social media accounts to share her wisdom on facial aesthetics and trends in the industry, and this time was no different as she opened up about the treatments she’s seen less often these days.

First on the list were dermal fillers, a type of cosmetic injection that aims to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, plump up the face and add some volume to sagging skin.

They are often injected into places such as under the eyes and cheeks.

However, injections have been a hot topic and some doctors even claim that they can last for decades and migrate to the face.

And it’s an injection that Tripathi is not asked to give to patients as much, he said.

“I don’t want to say it hasn’t been replaced by other things, people are asking for things like exosomes, fat transfers, biostimulants like Sculptra, while these have been available for a long time, fillers are just getting a bad reputation,” Tripathi explained.

“And for most of us in any type of surgical field, we’ve mostly been using filler pretty conservatively, not in huge amounts, but I’m just not asked to do a lot anymore,” the doctor continued.

Next on her list was any type of “mini” procedure, such as a mini facelift or mini neck lift.

Mini facelifts are supposed to involve fewer incisions than a traditional facelift, so Health line, and is intended to reduce the appearance of sagging skin.

“I think people are a lot smarter now and think it’s just maximal incisions and small results that don’t last very long,” he said.

“And so if you’re going to address a particular issue, talk about your concern, which is why mini facelifts have fallen out of favor in my opinion, in favor of regular facelifts,” Tripathi said.

However, he noted that this had nothing to do with age, but was based on his anatomy.

The last procedure Tripathi no longer sees as often was one he said was “amazing.”

“I’m seeing fewer and fewer people asking for things like microneedling and opting for things like CO2 laser,” she explained.

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves puncturing tiny holes with fine needles into the top layer of the skin to stimulate more collagen, resulting in a younger-looking complexion, while CO2 lasers are lasers that work to resurface the top layer of the skin to achieve something similar.

“I think there’s, again, more awareness around the fact that CO2 lasers can be used on all skin types and tones, and that you can actually get a really good result with very little downtime,” Tripathi shared.

“I think in some ways, depending on what your concern is, it’s superior to microneedling,” he said of lasers.

In the title of her video, she explained that people aren’t necessarily doing less to their faces, they’re just switching things up for other treatments that are “essentially better.”

And in the comments section, many users shared the procedures they themselves were performing.

“I’ve had three sessions of microneedling with platelet-rich plasma and have received so many compliments on how flawless my skin is. Immediate results!” one person wrote.

Another person shared: “Reality! I don’t get filler and she always tries to pressure me into doing it under my eyes and I’m like, “I’ll stick with PRP and PRF, thanks.”

“I think people are scared of fillers because so many people overdo it. I’ve only had fillers under my eyes twice in eight years and I’m 57,” another person commented.

“I definitely feel like I get more bang for my buck and less recovery time with laser treatments,” a second user admitted.
