The Indian Army and Air Force are among several regional and national bodies joining in the rescue effort.

“We hope to evacuate these two women as soon as possible,” said the head of the rescue operation.

Fay and Michelle are believed to have sent their emergency message to Mountain Rescue from a pager when they were 20,350 feet up the mountain and have not been heard from since.

The British woman, from Bedford, left the United Kingdom to move to the Alps in pursuit of her passion for climbing and became a professional mountaineer, sponsored by brands such as The North Face and Petzl.

He has become the first person to complete a series of complex routes across multiple alpine mountains since moving.
