A woman who had to fight for her life after drinking insect-infested coffee she bought at a Mallorca airport has spoken out about the ordeal and revealed she was left blind during the horrific incident.

The 21-year-old airline worker had bought the hot drink from a vending machine at Son Sant Joan airport, located near the capital Palma, before seeing “little antennae and wings” on the glass while he was drinking.

After running to the bathroom in shock, she revealed the terrifying moment she returned to her partner to inform him she couldn’t see anything.

His condition continued to worsen until he began to go into anaphylactic shock, with his face and throat swollen to the point where it was difficult to breathe.

The airport health services administered adrenaline and other drugs before she lost consciousness and was rushed to a clinic in Palma.

‘When I got to the ICU they told my boyfriend: ‘Be grateful that a body hasn’t arrived,’ she said.

The woman, who spent 36 hours in the ICU since Monday, was discharged yesterday after revealing: ‘I had a bad time, seeing myself alone, with all those tubes.’

He also said that the first thing he did when he saw the flies was call Deli Corner, the coffee company.

“They told me to bring my cell phone and they would give me the 50 cents back,” he said.

‘I did it in good faith that it wouldn’t happen to someone else, I told them I didn’t want the money, I just wanted them to do something.’

His family has now filed a complaint against the airport with the National Police, Ăšltima Hora reported.

They claim that the presence of insects in the coffee cup is a possible crime against public health and reckless injury, the news site added.

The family added that the machine, which has now been closed, was clearly poorly maintained by airport staff.

The woman explained that she intends to continue with the complaint while she fully recovers, in an effort to prevent a repeat of a situation similar to the one she experienced.
