Central Coast Mariners star Angel Torres was arrested in dramatic scenes at Sydney Airport on Monday.

Torres, 24, had returned to Australia from Kyrgyzstan after playing the full 90 minutes for the Mariners in their 1-1 draw against FK Abdysh-Ata Kant in the Asian Cup.

The case will be heard at Gosford Court next month.

Torres grew up in Colombia and played for Portuguese side Porto at youth level. He was sold to Portuguese side Alverca, then enjoyed a season with Maltese club Balzan before moving to the Mariners in 2023.

Cryptically, Torres took to Instagram on Tuesday afternoon to release a statement.

“No one can go against God,” he wrote. ‘Stronger than ever.’
