An Australian woman is urging shoppers to check their receipts after her mother was overcharged at a Woolworths checkout.
The daughter shared a photo of a receipt showing her mother had been charged almost four times the price of a popular item at Woolworths in Frenchs Forest, in Sydney’s north.
“My mother bought some things from Woolworths last Tuesday 27 February and it appears that the ham she bought was scanned at the price per kilo ($36.00) rather than the price of the 256g she actually bought ($9.22) “he wrote on Reddit. .
‘I don’t see how this isn’t a problem with your payment system unless the cashier manually overrides the price.
‘She (mom) doesn’t normally check receipts either, so this was a lucky find!’

Some social media users suggested that the checkout operator may have entered the figure incorrectly.
“Whoever wrapped it left a big crease in the barcode, which would mean the cashier had to type in the number manually,” one person said.
“I work at Woolies… this is exactly what has happened,” another agreed.
“Human errors can still occur,” a third person wrote.
Others said they had had similar experiences and encouraged the customer to take the label and receipt to the store for a full refund.
‘Yesterday the exact same thing happened to me… the lady had her hand on the scale and weighed a handful of beans 2.5 kilos and charged me 20 dollars,’ said one person
“I checked the receipt on the way out and went to the counter, they refunded my money and gave it to me for free.”

Under Woolworth’s price scanning policy, shoppers can get a free item if the scanned price turns out to be higher than the one displayed in the store.
A Woolworths spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia this was an “isolated incident” and encouraged the woman to contact them for a refund.
“We encourage any customer who is unsure to contact a team member in store to help and get a refund if there has been an error,” he said.
