This is the incredible moment a grandmother was swept into the air by the electric shutters of a shop just as it was open.

CCTV footage captured Anne Hughes, 71, standing outside the Best One supermarket in Tonteg, South Wales, shortly before 8am on Monday.

However, while his back was turned to the entrance, the bottom of his raincoat became caught in the tent’s blind.

As it rises, it drags poor Anne down with it, leaving her hanging upside down and desperately clutching her shopping cart.

Speaking from her home near the shop, Anne said: “I was standing there when my coat got tangled and I stood up. I thought about flipping the heck!

‘People say it can happen to anyone, no, it can only happen to me! It’s lucky that he has a good sense of humor.

Within moments, the shopkeeper runs out and unhooks Anne before safely getting her back to her feet.

The footage was posted by the store on social media and has gone viral in the last 24 hours, being viewed and shared hundreds of thousands of times.

Best One bosses insisted the customer was unharmed in the bizarre incident.

They joked: ‘Don’t be like Ann, shop around to get the best deals!’ The only thing going up in this store is our staff, not the prices!’

Anne had a bruised face and a black eye, but she said it was from another accident and not from the shutter surprise.

She said: “I have been suffering from falls for the last six months and the doctors at the hospital think it is due to low blood pressure – it was going up then.”

“I was lucky my coat didn’t rip because I really didn’t want to fall on my face again.”

Anne has been working as a cleaner in the popular town shop for more than five years.

His colleagues said he saw the funny side after watching the security camera of his surprise.

A colleague said today: ‘She’s a lovely lady and it was a big surprise for her.

But fortunately she was not injured in any way. We know clients have been watching the video and we are glad she is doing well.”

Villagers praised Anne for not panicking during the “absolutely terrifying” incident.

One said: ‘Fair play to her! I hope she’s okay and for the part I guess she sees the funny side of her.

Another said: ‘OMG poor Ann!! Bless her heart. I’m glad you’re okay xx’

The store is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac next to a beauty salon and kiosks.
