Florence Pugh wrote a touching message to a fan who revealed that watching her new film We Live In Time captured her own lived experience after her mother died of lung cancer when she was just six years old.
The A24 release follows the “unconventional” love story of a recent divorcee (Andrew Garfield) and a rising chef (Florence), who is diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer.
After seeing it on the big screen, Sophie, 24, reached out to thank Midsommar actress Florence, 28, for her “gift” of a performance, adding that it “captured every emotion my mom felt so beautifully.”
He also described the film as one of the “most beautiful, moving and exceptional films I have ever seen in my life.”
On Instagram, Sophie wrote: “My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer when I was two years old and was given six months to live,” Sophie’s comment began.

“She endured four years of chemotherapy, medications and treatment to give me a chance to remember her, and she passed away when I was six years old.
‘You and Andrew are two of my favorite actors, without a doubt.
“I watched a lot of promotions for the movie because I love them both, but I wasn’t sure I’d be able to see it because of the direct parallels to my own trauma. I went on my day off on Friday and saw it in a completely empty theater with the stuffed animal from my mom and a box of tissues, and God, I’m so glad I did it.
“It is truly one of the most beautiful, moving and exceptional films I have ever seen. You captured every emotion my mom felt so beautifully.
‘I only have a couple of entries left in his diary, so God, Florence, your performance is a great gift.
“I was so little, so protected, that I didn’t understand what she was going through.
‘Being able to witness it through this film… I can’t express my gratitude enough.
‘Thank you, thank you all, for giving life to my experience. I can’t express how much this movie means to me. I will keep him close for the rest of my life. “lots of love.”
Sophie, 24, reached out to thank Florence in an emotional Instagram comment.
Florence responded to Sophie’s message and thanked her for sharing her story.
Responding to the comment, Florence thanked Sophie for sharing her story, and revealed that such messages give her the “energy to tackle these honest stories again and again.”
She wrote: ‘Hi Sophie. Florence here. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write your heart out here in the comments.
‘Needless to say, I am extremely sorry for your loss, especially at such a young age.
“I can’t imagine the ways it affects one’s life and the processing that inevitably occurs for years.”
He continued: “It’s always the desire for my work to speak to someone, somewhere, who feels the same way.
‘Reading how much it meant to you is not only a privilege to hear, but it also feels like a gift to know that it has helped you in some way.
‘Thank you for sharing your story. I appreciate your time both in watching the film and writing to me here.’

Last week, Florence’s co-star Andrew posed with a life-size cutout of her at the BFI London Film Festival screening.
The actor, 41, was in good spirits as he joked and played around on the red carpet, moving the cardboard cutout and striking silly poses.
The hilarious stunt comes after the couple revealed they went “further than they should have” while filming sex scenes.
Speaking ahead of its release on October 11, Andrew told how the pair got a little carried away during a “very intimate and passionate sex scene” because they didn’t hear a “cut” call from the team.
During an appearance at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, he told the crowd, “The scene becomes passionate, as we choreograph it.”
‘And we went into it, so to speak, and we went a little further than we should have because we didn’t hear “cut” and we felt safe. And we just thought, “Okay, we’ll move on to the next thing, let this progress and move on.”
