Looking out over Windermere, it’s easy to see why literary greats were inspired by the stunning views. As boats rise and fall and birds fly overhead against the backdrop of hills, one can spend hours soaking it all in.

He Hotels in Langdale Chase On the shores of the famous lake, synonymous with the likes of author Beatrix Potter and poet William Wordsworth, it offers the perfect vantage point. Whether enjoying a book in the reading room, devouring afternoon tea in the conservatory or embarking on a lake cruise, there is plenty to do.

Built as a house in the 1890s, the Grade II listed building, the first residence in Windermere to have electricity, was converted into a hotel in 1930.

The rooms are “spacious, comfortable and full of personal touches, including cakes made individually for each guest and a minibar stocked with beers and fresh milk.”

Upon entering, guests are greeted in the lobby by a roaring fireplace (when it’s cold), where they check in with a friendly member of staff and sip champagne under stained glass on a comfortable sofa.

There is an Art Deco bar, an oak room, a reading room, a restaurant with two AA Rosettes, a wine cellar, a cinema room and a conservatory where afternoon tea is served, with more champagne.

In summer it can be enjoyed on the terrace, where guests can watch the sun set behind Langdale Pikes.

The attention to detail in both the decor and the food was impressive. The sandwiches, snacks and treats were a work of art and the afternoon tea was the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve tried a few) – well worth a visit even if you’re passing through Windermere.

For those who want to enjoy the sanctuary of the rooms and make the most of the facilities, they are spacious, comfortable and full of personal touches, including cakes made individually for each guest, minibar stocked with beers and fresh milk and a coffee maker. The decor is grand and luxurious yet cozy and comfortable, and the view from the bedroom window shows off the four-and-a-half-acre grounds and the famous water.

There are 21 rooms in the main house, eight in the modern Lakehouse and one suite in the historic Boat House and most rooms have private bathrooms.
